Sound Masking

Not only can an environment be too loud, it can also be too quiet. Sound masking is an electronic and programmable way of providing ambient background noise to match frequencies of speech, improving the comfortability and privacy of individuals in any environment.

Open plan offices for example provide the optimum environment for conversations to be heard from up to 45m away, inadvertently distracting others from a great distance. Similarly, private conversations can be overheard clearly with sound being clear even through partitions and doors, making people more conscious of their surroundings and lowering their overall efficiency of working in that environment.

By raising ambient background sound with white or pink noise, we can make speech less intelligible and therefore less distracting at the same time as increasing privacy inadvertently to help people focus and provide a safe space at work.

Sound masking does not cancel out sound or eliminate noise from speech in an environment, it uses the ambient sounds to reduce how far these conversations travel clearly by up to 30m, great in modern day open plan spaces that use glass and other smooth inert materials that bounce back sound instead of absorbing it.
